New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Announces Massive Lineup including Dead & Company, Jon Batiste, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, More
The happiest time of the year (no, not Christmas) just got a whole lot happier for music lovers around the world with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s announcement of its much anticipated 2023 lineup. The long-running festival is set, once again, to take over the city’s Fair Grounds Race Course over two long weekends from April 28 through May 7.
Headlining acts include Dead & Company, Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Santana, Herbie Hancock, Jill Scott, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Kane Brown, H.E.R., Steve Miller Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gary Clark Jr., Leon Bridges, Farruko, Ludacris, Avenue, Kenny Loggins, and Jazmine Sullivan. Also topping the bill are a number hometown heroes including international sensation and five-time Grammy-winner Jon Batiste; The Soul Rebels, who will join headliners Wu-Tang Clan for a special set; the queen of Bounce Big Freedia; nationally-acclaimed alternative rockers The Revivalists; and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue closing out the festival.
Presented by Shell and drawing over 400,000 people from around the globe to New Orleans each year, the event will feature many more national and international stars from across the musical spectrum including world music, blues, gospel, R&B, hip hop, rap, Zydeco, Americana, rock, country, and, of course, jazz. Los Lobos, Jamie Cullum, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal Quartet, Allison Russell, Mavis Staples, Marcus King, Angelique Kidjo, Buddy Guy, Melissa Etheridge, Samantha Fish, Cory Wong, Terence Blanchard featuring The E-Collective, Christian McBride’s New Jawn, John Hiatt & The Goners, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Charlie Musselwhite, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Tom Jones, Keb’ Mo’, NE-YO, Dee Dee Bridgewater Quartet, Robert Randolph Band, Larkin Poe, and Eric Gales will be among scores of luminaries appearing.
While the big names are major draws, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival remains the world’s largest showcase for the region’s rich musical and cultural heritage, with the word “heritage” taken to heart. Louisiana’s best and brightest will be performing, including Irma Thomas, Tank and The Bangas, Galactic featuring Anjelika ‘Jelly’ Joseph, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Tab Benoit, Anders Osborne, The Radiators, David Shaw, Zigaboo Modeliste and The Funk Revue, George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Kermit Ruffins’ Tribute to Louis Armstrong, Hot 8 Brass Band, Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas, Cowboy Mouth, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux & The Golden Eagles, Shamarr Allen, Eric Lindell, Boyfriend, and many others.
